ACC Corner – Bill Rose, ACC Chairperson
Since assuming the Chair of the ACC, I have put many miles on my auto. Have enjoyed taking in the scenery of our great area, but I have found one thing very confusing. That is many houses do not have numbers. All streets have post boxes on one side of the street, not necessarily in numerical order to match the houses. As we travel about checking on requests, much time is lost in trying to find the correct house. I am asking homeowners that do not have a number on their house to please attach a number so that we can more easily find your house.
Fall is now upon us, and trees are shedding their leaves and needles. I am asking all residents to please keep in mind how the surroundings look when yards are clean and neat. Please clean up your homesite as soon as possible when the north wind blows. We do not like to rake and pick up tree and shrub debris, but not doing so leaves our homes looking shabby. Thanks for your assistance to keep Carolina Shores a pleasant looking area.
Help! Still looking for ACC members. Please look at your time schedules and find time to volunteer. In the normal course there would be two to four hours every other week. We are cordial and are working to make Carolina Shores a great place to live. Please call the Office to set up a meeting so we can explain how the ACC works.
Would you like to Give Thanks with Our Neighbors in Need this year?

Due to the occupancy capacity of the Elks, two separate parties will be held – Friday, December 3 and Saturday, December 4. The time for each party is from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:00 p.m. Seating is limited to 130 persons for each date. The cost is $10.00 per person for residents. Guest tickets are $20.00 and are limited to one per household with at least one resident attending.
Tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis. Each resident must come in person to pick up their own ticket or tickets for their household or guest.
In order to accommodate our numbers, tables will be set for parties of 8.
Tickets will be available Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until noon, starting Monday, November 1, through Thursday, November 18, or until the maximum number of tickets is sold. An additional Saturday, November 6, is being added to accommodate those who may not be able to pick up their tickets during the week. Ticket sales will take place in the POA clubhouse at a table manned by recreation committee members. No tickets will be distributed from the POA office.
Elks Lodge policy requires that the first and last names of each person attending must be provided to the club prior to the event. Therefore, each individual purchasing tickets, either for themselves or their household, will be asked to provide first and last names of attendees. Book Discussion Group – Susie Riggs
The Book Discussion Group met in the POA building on Friday, October 15, to discuss The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah. The title of this novel refers to the four winds of the earth that blew migrants from across the southern plain states of the US to California during the Dust Bowl of the 1930s. As seen through the eyes of one indomitable woman whose courage and sacrifice define this generation, the characters in this story rely on hope, resilience and strength of the human spirit to guide them as they struggle to revive their American dreams. Although sad and painful to read, The Four Winds comes highly recommended by our book group members.
Our reading schedule for the next eleven months is as follows:
November: What’s Mine and Yours by Naima Coster,
December: The Orphan Collector by Ellen Marie Wiseman,
January: The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides,
February: Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson or Verity by Colleen Hoover,
March: The Beekeeper of Aleppo by Christy Lefteri or Even as We Breathe by Annette Saunooke Clapsaddle,
April: The Personal Librarian by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher,
May: The Plot by Jean Hanff Korelitz or The Peacock Emporium by JoJo Moyes,
June: Each member reads a Pulitzer Prize or National Book Award Winner (2011-2021),
July: The Forest of Vanishing Stars by Kristin Harmel or House Rules by Jodi Picoult,
August: This Tender Land by William Kent Krueger,
September: Hanna’s Daughters by Marianne Fredricksson.
Our next meeting will be held on Friday, November 19, at 10:00 a.m. in the POA clubhouse. All interested residents of Carolina Shores are welcome to attend!

Care Team – Flo Pflaster
We have many volunteers on the Care Team, ready and willing to help our neighbors with temporary assistance. I will do whatever I can to find someone to help - all you have to do is call or email me!
For those of you who have volunteered to help others by being on the Care Team, here is how you make sure you are getting notifications when I post a request:
How to control all email notification settings (including groups)
1. Log in to nextdoor.com and click your profile picture in the top right corner.
2. Select Settings from the drop-down.
3. Select Notifications from the left menu:
4. Next to Email Notifications, select Edit
5. If you set Updates from your local area to None then you will not receive email notifications from your groups.
6. If you set it to Only top posts or All you will get an email for every new group post. (choose this one)
Note: Adjusting these settings will affect all your email notifications, not just for groups.
If you want to be a part of this team or if you no longer want to be on the list, please let me know. There are not many calls for help, but people are so very grateful for the assistance they do get! It really does not take much to volunteer. Help with a small chore at home, an occasional ride, a temporary need for dog walking, etc. is usually what is needed. So, neighbors, continue to let me know if you need help and I will do my best to find someone.
Thank you,
